The site is starting to take shape… (again!)

Where to start…

I’ve installed a forum system.  It’s not as robust as what we had before, but it will take care of the spam problem we were facing. Click on the link to the right which says forums.  I’ve got a support request in with the theme creator on what’s causing the forum menu to drop down so low… we’ve both scratching our heads on that one, but hopefully between the two of us we’ll be able to figure that one out.

I’ve started thinking about how to incorporate ads into the site.  Preference is being given to residents of our community.  You can track my current thinking by following the link to “place your ad here” off to the right.   Just to make sure that I’d set up the ad management software correctly I’ve placed some teaser ads in the smaller ad box, if you refresh the page you should randomly see links to my personal site (jetshack), my business site (springcypress), and my favorite fish store (B.B.)

In a similar, yet different enough vein to be worth mentioning, I’m not entirely sure what to do with the area underneath where it says “links” in the middle column. I’m thinking that this area can be used for linking off to resident’s websites, area attractions (weather, concert info, movies, etc.) but at the same time I don’t want it to just be a link farm either… thoughts on that area would be greatly appreciated.

Next up I’m going to be making a “How To” on the site… what does what, how to do this and that, why and when you should log in, etc…  Just as a W.A.G. I’m going to say that the site should be ready for everybody again here in a week or two.

At this point, I’m looking for any suggestions or critiques anyone’s willing to throw out there.  Either comment to this by clicking on the comment link, or start a thread in the forums…

Peace out…
